I am Akitaka Yamada (山田彬尭), an associate professor at Osaka University.

As a theoretical linguist, I am interested in the way discourse-oriented meanings are encoded in natural languages. My dissertation work explores this interface for addressee-honorific constructions in Japanese.

As a corpus linguist, I examine quantitative data by building and comparing statistical models to improve our understanding of natural languages.
